Recommended Training

The Fire Service has very strict training requirements for personnel who wish to fulfill a certain ICS Position at an Incident. They also require that you work as a "Trainee" and are signed off by a Supervisor before you can work in a Position. They have relaxed the requirements considerably for our Volunteers. They have even changed the wording from "required" to "recommended".  The local Fire Service Agencies have been very supportive of our training by allowing us to enroll in classes that are not usually open to civilians.  Individual Instructors have customized classes just for our group in order to make it less time consuming for our Volunteers and more appropriate for our circumstances.  Please don't be intimidated by this list.  This is not set in stone.  There are often "Battleground Promotions".  However this is a goal that we are trying to achieve.  We have trainings approximately on a quarterly basis, so it may take a motivated Volunteer a full year before they will be certified at one of the top positions.

Required Annual Training

If you wish to be a miscellaneous worker in a non-supervisory role in Shelter or Community Outreach, you are not required to participate in any annual training.  However it is highly recommended to take the classes as refreshers each year so that you will be familiar with new forms, etc...  It also helps us to see everybody at least once a year so that we can work together as a cohesive group.  We also would like to encourage you to take advanced classes so that we may take advantage of your experience with the group.

If you are involved in a Supervisory/Management Role or with the Evacuation Team, you will need to participate in the following Annual Trainings:
1.  Shelter II
2.  Evacauation II
3.  Radio II
In addition, if you wish to work behind a Roadblock or in a Flooded Area, you will be required to have the following classes annually.  (This includes ALL Evacuation Personnel):
1.  Fire Line Safety Class
2.  Swiftwater/Floodwater Awareness
